The gates of Forest Lawn and Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg will be closed to visitors on Monday, April 8, 2024, the day of the solar eclipse.
As the two largest cemeteries in the Forest Lawn Group, Forest Lawn and Lakeside Cemetery typically welcome many visitors on a daily basis.
However, on April 8, the cemeteries could attract significantly more visitors. Neither cemetery is designed as a venue for large gatherings, and because they are active cemeteries, the Forest Lawn Group’s priority is to ensure the safety and privacy for funeral services.
To eliminate any risk of disruption to these services, access to Forest Lawn and Lakeside Cemetery on Monday, April 8 will be limited to funeral processions.
Both cemeteries will reopen for visitors as usual on Tuesday, April 9 at 8:30 am.
Signs communicating this information will be posted at the entrances to both cemeteries.
