Forest Lawn is once again proud to host our annual Flag Day commemoration and U.S. Flag Retirement ceremony.

We are very pleased to welcome the third and fourth grade students from the Dr. George E. Blackman School of Excellence ECC (PS 54),The Early Childhood Center (PS 17) and the Harriot Ross Tubman School (PS 31) who will join us for this event. The children will participate in a special ceremony that will include the singing of patriotic songs and the placement of a wreath on the gravesite of Buffalo school teacher and Flag Day co-founder Sara Hinson. They will also assist with the retirement of U.S. Flags.

The U.S. Flag code states the proper way to retire unusable flags is through burning in a dignified manner. The public is invited to bring their old flags and join the school children; the City of Buffalo Fire Department; Erie County American Legion; the Rotary Club of Buffalo and Forest Lawn for this reverent and respectful ceremony, to be held near the gravesite of Buffalo school teacher and Flag Day co-founder Sara Hinson.

This event is free and open to the public.
